Conference Objective: Consensus Statement on Improving Pathological Diagnosis of Rare Cancers

Recommendations stemming from this consensus statement will be crucial in making sure that the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive has the right impact on the lives of patients suffering from rare cancers, through effective use of European Reference Networks.

Meeting agenda

Day 1: Closed workshop

This event was organised by Rare Cancers Europe (RCE), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the European Society of Pathology (ESP).

The workshop produced a consensus paper based on available evidence and intensive expert discussion on issues related to accurate and timely diagnosis of individual rare cancers. The paper will be published in a scientific journal and used as the basis of an awareness campaign at the EU level.

Day 2: A Cross-Border Perspective On Pathologic Diagnosis of Rare Cancers

This event was hosted by Ms Zofija Mazej Kukovic, MEP, from 9:00-11:00, at the European Parliament (Room ASP 5E-3), Brussels.  MEPs and a Member of the European Commission responsible for European Reference Networks were presented with findings and asked to comment on how to implement the recommendations.
